The 4-day coed Adult Learn to Row Classes are held each summer. The classes will be conducted over three evenings and on Saturday mornings. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, sessions will be held at 6:00-8:00pm. On Saturday mornings, sessions will be held at 7:30-9:30am. Monday sessions will utilize rowing machines at Strive Health and Fitness. The Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday sessions will be in boats on Lake Allatoona. The cost of the Adult Learn to Row Class is $165.
In the Adult Learn to Row class, participants will spend time on land on rowing machines and in boats, practicing the rowing stroke and the details of how to move a boat effectively. By the end of the classes, participants will know the basics of rowing. Participants may register for multiple Adult Learn to Row classes to continue skill development, or, after demonstrating sufficient rowing skills, progress to membership in Allatoona Rowing Association and join the masters (adult) rowing team.
Rowing is an outdoor water sport, performed rain or shine, but wind or lightning can impact our ability to be on the water at times. Accommodations will be made for weather delays.
Participants should wear snug fitting athletic clothing (nothing baggy) and running/athletic shoes with socks. Participants are encouraged to wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Please bring a filled water bottle. Swimsuits are not necessary.
For all adult classes, Monday sessions will be held at Strive Health and Fitness, 2340 Towne Lake Parkway, #150, Woodstock, GA 30189. Phone 678-390-0609. Tuesday through Saturday sessions will be held at the Rowing Park, within Cherokee Mills Park, 6900 Bells Ferry Road, Woodstock, GA 30189. The entrance to the Rowing Park is a gated driveway located on Bells Ferry Road, approximately 50 feet south of the entrance to the boat ramp parking lot. Continue driving down the dirt driveway, through the woods, to the waterfront and the Rowing Park.
Rowing is a team sport and participants are dependent upon each other within a boat. Absence from practice or failure to show up for practice may cause the boat/team to be unable to go out on the lake. 24-hour notice must be provided to the coach if practice will be missed.
All participants must be competent swimmers with the ability to remain afloat for 10 minutes, swim 50 feet and put on a life vest while in the water. Participants should be able to lift 30 lbs. overhead.
