Youth Learn to Row Camps

Learn to Row Camps for youth (ages 12-18)

The 5-day coed Youth Learn to Row Camps (ages 12-18) are available each summer.  Camps will be conducted Monday through Friday, 7:30-9:30am.  The Monday sessions of camp will be conducted on rowing machines at Strive Health and Fitness, and the Tuesday through Friday sessions of camp will be in boats on Lake Allatoona.  Athletes may repeat the camp as desired, to further develop their rowing skills.  Completion of the camp, and demonstration of sufficient rowing skills, will permit athletes to progress to membership in Allatoona Rowing Association, and participation in our youth rowing team.  The cost of the 5-day camp is $195.

Rowing is an outdoor water sport, performed rain or shine, but wind or lightning can impact our ability to get on the water at times. Accommodations will be made for weather delays.

Campers should wear snug fitting athletic clothing (nothing baggy) and athletic shoes with socks. Athletes are encouraged to wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Please bring a filled water bottle. Swimsuits are not necessary.

For the youth camp, the Monday session will be held at Strive Health and Fitness, 2340 Towne Lake Parkway, #150, Woodstock, GA 30189. The Tuesday through Friday sessions will be held at the Rowing Park, within Cherokee Mills Park, 6900 Bells Ferry Road, Woodstock, GA 30189. The entrance to the Rowing Park is a gated driveway located on Bells Ferry Road, approximately 50 ft. south of the entrance to the boat ramp parking lot. To reach the Rowing Park, continue driving down the driveway, through the woods, to the waterfront.

Rowing is a team sport and participants are dependent upon each other within a boat. Absence from practice or failure to show up for practice may cause the boat/team to be unable to go out on the lake. 24-hour notice must be provided to the coach if practice will be missed.

All participants must be competent swimmers with the ability to remain afloat for 10 minutes, swim 50 feet and put on a life vest while in the water.
